Our research paper will be about the life and accomplishments of Jay Martin. Jay Martin is the head soccer coach and also a professor at OWU who has been around for 48 years, and during that time has accomplished some incredible things. The purpose of our essay will be to introduce Jay and show what an amazing person he is. Our paper will be divided up into certain subcategories of Jay’s life, these categories will be Jay’s coaching career, his job as a professor, his childhood and life before owu, and his effect on the school as a whole. The topic that I will be writing about is very personal to me, Jay’s contribution to the soccer program at OWU. This hits me home because I play on the soccer team and I interact with Jay Martin on a daily basis. This is an important part of our paper because it shows an aspect of his life that is arguably the most important to him. He also has many incredible accomplishments in this field, including being the winningest D3 soccer coach of all time.

Paragraph Assignment 5: Wiki Group
My Wiki assignment group (Group 1) will be writing about Ohio Wesleyan professor and nationally recognized soccer coach John “Jay” Martin. Martin has been coaching at OWU for 38 years, and has broken records for his astounding six hundred and fifty-eight career wins, putting him down in national records as a legendary soccer coach, as well as earning him the love of his university. The purpose of this wiki is to inform students about this legendary figure who still serves Ohio Wesleyan and has won the university national recognition. In this wiki group, one person will be writing about Martin from the view of an OWU athlete, another will be writing about his academic career, and another will be writing about his lasting impact at OWU and on the sport of soccer. Personally, I will be writing about Martin’s background, such as where he is from, his childhood, his academics, and how he was led to his current career at Ohio Wesleyan. My part helps to fulfill the purpose of this wiki by informing the reader about Martin’s life, and by providing an introduction to Jay Martin as an average person by providing background information on Martin. For example, after graduating from Springfield University in Massachusetts, Martin moved to Munich, Germany where he first got his start coaching soccer at the Munich YMCA after becoming the sports director there. This helps fulfill the purpose of the wiki by providing an explanation on how Martin got his start coaching soccer, and providing crucial exposition for the rest of the essay.

What does it mean to be an OWU soccer player? We will be discussing the moral that many of the teammates possess while on these elite teams. While juggling a job or two and many classes that come with college, they also find time to make the other teams wish they would’ve stayed home. The three topics we will include statistics of the team, information about the organization, and a timeline from when it all started to today. I will be writing on the timeline. This will have specific dates on the milestones of the team. An example of this would be when they the NCAC championship for the first time since 2010. Knowing the moral behind to pul off such a feat is what this paper is all about.
ReplyDeleteThe Ohio Wesleyan men’s soccer team is one that thrives on its successful seasons and overall team spirit. Through an examination of the teams origination and descent into triumph, we will discover the contributing factors to their overall success. As evidence, we will interview select teammates and coaches, examining how the moral of the team is originated and affects the success of the team as a whole. The division of work will mainly be comprised of dividing the different topics into sections such as background history, origination of team moral, etc. My part will be focusing on the origination of the moral of the current team; Whether it comes from the coach, each other, or other outside factors. This will connect the overarching theme of our research to the individual insight the teammates can offer of the subject of their moral.

In this paper we will discuss the Battling Bishop at Ohio Wesleyan University. This includes the history of the Battling Bishop, why he looks so angry all the time, what a bishop is, and the history of mascots in general. A mascot is described as a "person, animal or object that is believed to bring luck to those that worship it". The purpose of a mascot is to bring positive spirits and good luck to each sports team. In this wiki, one writer will discuss the change of mascots (especially the Bishop) over time, one will review what a bishop is, one will discuss why the bishop is named Bob, consider his facial expression, and I will discuss the history of Bob here at OWU, along with the history of mascots. By knowing the history of mascots, along with the history of the Battling Bishop, the reader will be able to see the growth and development of Bob, and why he is such a special part of athletic life here at OWU. "The Ohio Wesleyan teams adopted their official nickname in 1925. During the same year, Ohio Wesleyan's official mascot became a grumpy-looking bishop dressed in a red robe." Ohio Wesleyan has had their official mascot the "Battling Bishop" for over 90 years, and this mascot has become such a valid part of the culture here at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Our paper will be discussing our mascot here at OWU; the Battling Bishop. We will be discussing the reasons as to why the Bishop is named Bob, the history of Bob/history of mascots, what a Bishop is, the change of the Bishop and his facial expressions. The purpose of this wiki is to educate the students of OWU about their mascot and help them better understand. I personally am going to write about Bob's change overtime and his facial expressions. My part helps fulfill the reader about their mascot, why he has a mean look on his face, and the progression of Bob overtime. North Carolina Wesleyan College also has the Battling Bishop as their mascot, but ours looks far more intense in the face than theirs.

My group, Group One’s, essay will be about Ohio Wesleyan University’s own John “Jay” Martin. Jay Martin is not only a beloved professor at the university, but also a nationally recognized soccer coach for his many accomplishments, such as his six hundred and fifty-eight wins. The purpose of our essay will be to enlighten those who may not know all about the amazing faculty member our university possesses. The essay will be divided into four sections all pertaining to parts of Martin’s life. These sections will be Martin’s background information and childhood, his role as a professor, his role as a coach, and his effect on the people around him. I, myself, will be writing about his role as a professor. My part helps fulfill the purpose by showing how Ohio Wesleyan students are positively impacted by Martin.

Our Wiki assignment group has discussed the growth of the Health and Human Kinetics program at OWU. Health and Human Kinetics (HHK) is a major that allows students to build on a course of study that can be combined with other concentrations like sports and exercise management. This major has been in existence at OWU for many years and it continues to grow. Typically people go into athletic training but with a degree in HHK you can build a path toward careers in exercise science, nursing, public health, physical therapy and even occupational therapy. There are a wide range of opportunities that those with degrees in HHK can get which makes the program at OWU very popular and successful. For those who want to stay involved with sports a degree in HHK can be helpful for you in that career path. The purpose of the wiki is to share information about the growth and popularity of the major and to show the flexibility in the major. Our research will include an overview of the major. Another area we can focus on is the job outlook and the potential opportunities that students who graduate with their degree in HHK will have. Another part includes talking with upperclassmen about the classes and opportunities they have had in this major. I will spend some time talking with those students who are already in the program and gather information about their experiences and opportunities they’ve had as they are completing their last two years.
The group chose to write about the Battling Bishop. We wanted to discover more about the mascot that we as a school are supposed to cheer for. We will talk about what makes the representation of the mascot unique, the history behind mascots, what actually is a bishop, and how the Battling Bishop has changed over time. I will be writing about what makes the physical embodiment of the school mascot unique such as his name. Better understanding facts about the mascot will help us construct an idea of who he is and how we can apply that to ourselves as he is our mascot. A name adds a special sense of personality to a character.

The Battling Bishops is a strange mascot, I must agree with my friends and family with that one. But, why is a bishop the mascot for Ohio Wesleyan? Our group hopes to discover the mysteries and history of our precious and unusual gowned figure. The Wiki will be used to collaborate ideas about the Battling Bishop. We will research the history of our mascot and also the history of mascots in general, the explanation of what bishops are in real life, the appearance of our mascot over time and finally, how the Battling Bishop has become known as “Bob” to the student population. I will be exploring the details of what a bishop is. The reason why learning about what our mascot represents will help aide in understanding what he stands for. A bishop is most often related to the Christian faith, so, this being said, reflects that Ohio Wesleyan might have deep religious roots that could expand to other aspects of the campus.

The soccer program at Ohio Wesleyan is anything but ordinary, as a matter of fact, the program is extraordinary. Throughout the essay we will back up this statement and enlighten the reader of what makes this program so special. We will try and do so by breaking up the essay into 3 main points. The first being the statistics of the team, second being the information about the organization, and lastly the timeline starting from the beginning to now. My part will be to prove how exceptional the program is by way of statistics, the numbers don't lie. I say this because one could debate upon whether the program could be ran better or not, but one cannot argue about statistics that back up the statements being made.

For our first wiki, we will look into Ohio Wesleyan’s Health and Human Kinetics department and what this major offers. Health and Human Kinetics is a major. Health and Human Kinetics looks at the make up of the human body and the science behind how it moves. With four different majors and over twenty courses offered, the Health and Human Kinetics department is becoming an increasingly popular focus for many students here at OWU. In our paper, we are going to show the impact that the HHK department can have on your life and where it can take you down the road. We will talk about the history and the recent growth in the department, the different majors and courses offered, and also the opportunities and career paths that this major offers. Our goal is to show the faculty and students, current and prospective, that the Health and Human Kinetics program is more than just a major in physical education and that it is an extensive major that can help you lead a successful life. In the paper, it will be my task to write about the many opportunities and career paths that come with this major. College is a time where many students are trying to figure out what they will do in life and how they will make a living. My part is important to the overall product because it shows people the value in the major; it tells them why they would study Health and Human Kinetics.
