ReplyDeleteCyberbullying affects millions of kids every day. Cyberbullying is when kids bully another via technology, such as text, social media, emails, or embarrassing pictures/videos without consent of the person being bullied. This type of bullying, or any bullying in general, should be prevented and reported if their is an incident. There are way you can prevent cyberbullying by watching what your kid is doing online, establish rules, etc. Also, cyberbullying must be reported immediately. The school and law enforcement should be contacted based on severity. There are also ways to deal with a kid who has been cyberbullied, whether that is removing them from school, switching classes, etc. These steps can help decrease cyberbullying, and do something about the bullies. Cyberbullying is not easily detected if the child being bullied doesn’t tell anyone of the problem, they can be hidden and sometimes the child may be embarrassed to report the bully.
Ever since the beginning of time, women have been treated as unequal and inferior to men. In the media, especially in movies and TV shows, women are hyper-sexualized and are seen as existing solely to pleasure the man. In reality, women are not physically nor mentally inferior to men, and indeed hold the same amount of power that men do. Our society demands that men show very little emotion, and that they be the dominant ones when compared to women. Throughout the past century or so, women have begun to raise their voices and fight for equal rights.
ReplyDeleteGenetic engineering is the concept of modifying the characteristics of an organism by manipulating its genetic material. This concept can be applied to all aspects of life but this paper will focus on food. Specifically, about the concept of GMO (genetically modified organism) and the various opinions on the topic. If it is GMO say no. If a product has to be chemically altered in anyway for it to be appealing to consumers then why should it be consumed? The purpose of this paper is to educate and make people aware of this issue. This will be accomplished by explaining the 5 W’s and H (who, what, when, where, why, and how) and also persuade the reader to say no to GMO. GMO foods raise numerous problems such as: genes mixed across different species which can cause new allergens in humans and organisms in the ecosystem could be harmed. If these organisms are harmed then it would result in a lower level of biodiversity and therefore removing a food source for an animal. Also GM plants could be toxic to an organism in the environment which would decrease or even eliminate that organism. GMO is not necessary especially when there are numerous risks.
ReplyDeleteI am planning on writing my research project on the worldwide energy crisis. Specifically, I plan on discussing the types of energy available currently and their individual characteristics. The purpose of this project is to inform the reader on different types of energy and persuade them that we need to make a move towards more renewable, green energy sources. I plan to discuss fossil fuels, renewable energy, new alternative/hybrid energy sources, and each of the energy types’ costs and benefits. By dividing the paper in this way, it will allow for a wide variety of energy sources to be discussed, while still allowing for detailed discussion and argument of the benefits of each type. For example, this division will allow me to present statistics from British Petroleum, where a graph indicates a rapid decline in the international oil reserves starting in 2010, and it indicates that there is a possible continued decline over the course of the next decade, after which they are unsure of a proper estimate in the amount of oil in the international reserves. These statistics show that the continued use of fossil fuels and nonrenewable resources is rapidly depleting our access to these resources and causing uncertainties in the guarantee of fuel in the future, whereas the use of renewable energy would decrease these uncertainties and help to guarantee a continued access to energy in the future.
ReplyDeleteThe topic of my research paper will be the world's energy crisis. I will be discussing all of the energy sources and their benefits and problems in an attempt to show the obvious choice when looking for a solution for the energy crisis. I will be arguing that Nuclear Energy is the way of sustained energy in the long run. My essay will be divided into each energy supply, then my viewpoint and why I think this way. This will give the reader a basic understanding of the different energy sources and why Nuclear Energy is the best option, compared to the others. Nuclear Energy is a clean, basically unlimited source of energy that produces more energy with less power plants. This is opposed to coal that is a fossil fuel that will only last 200-300 more years and is a major cause of global warming.
ReplyDeleteI will be writing about the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill that occurred on March 24th, 1989 in the Prince William Sound off the coast of Alaska. This was the worst oil spill in U.S. history until the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in 2011. Despite multiple promises by Exxon to take great care in preventing an oil spill, Exxon still allowed Captain Hazelwood, a known alcoholic battling a relapse at the time, was allowed to navigate the ship despite having his driver’s license revoked for driving under the influence and being heavily intoxicated at the time. Exxon mobile blamed Captain Hazelwood for the incident but Exxon should be held accountable for both the spill itself, and the poor response effort made by Exxon that resulted in more damage and complications than if the proper clean up capabilities and action plans and were in place. I will divide my paper into the effects the spill had, how Exxon responded to the spill, and how the spill could have, and should have, been prevented in the first place. This will help to show the spill’s devastating effects, both economically and environmentally, and how Exxon’s actions and response were ineffective in minimizing damages and environmental restoration.
ReplyDeleteThe topic of my research project will be cyberbullying. Specifically, I want to look at how cyberbullying compares to bullying in “real life” and how the perceived differences can perpetuate the idea that cyberbullying is not really an issue. I will analyze this subject first, by comparing bullying and cyberbullying to find differences and similarities, and then note how those differences can make cyberbullying appear to be a non-issue. After that, I will look to refute those perceived differences and finally, I will look to show how cyberbullying can surpass bullying in terms of how each distresses the victim. By dividing my essay in this way I am able to use the negative perception that bullying already holds as a launching pad for the negative perception that I believe cyberbullying should hold. Creating a baseline of indignatio in the reader, which cyberbullying will surpass. An example is the notion, often touted, that cyberbullying can’t be compared to real bullying because a physical bully can make your life miserable everywhere you go while a cyber bully can follow you if you log off. I am thinking of combating this notion by highlighting the importance of the internet to the new generation and suggesting that forcing them to log off is a much greater way of isolating the victim than telling them to leave one side of the gym.
ReplyDeleteThe topic of my research project will be identity theft. There are various ways people lose their identity but many times the damage is done online. The question needed to be answered is why such a terrible crime still occurs daily and what can done to prevent this from happening. The division will be how the crime is done/different ways it happens, the effect that it has upon the victim, and the possible ways to stop the crime from transpiring. Although there are organizations created to fend off this issue such as AARP, there are still to many occurrences of the wrongdoing.
ReplyDeleteImagine one day, all of the national electricity grids just shut off and there was no more power in the United States. Seems like something out of a science fiction story right, wrong. In today’s society we face a very real and dangerous problem that is a direct result of the industrialization, urbanization and population growth. That gigantic problem which everyone seems to know about but not everyone puts two thoughts into is the energy crisis. The energy crisis is very real and it has only become larger and larger over the years, in fact, as a result of low oil prices, we may be setting ourselves up for oil shortages possibly as soon as 2016. Gasoline and oil are involved in almost everything in our society, from taking your kids to school, to take a bath, and even simply making a meal for your family. Without gasoline, people today have lost to necessary skills that are required to survive in a world without gasoline and power. Although we are at the tipping point, it is not to late to turn back. Within our own world, we have been provided with the means to live a clean and healthy naturally powered life, it is simply the fact that we have not all gotten on board with it. If we continue to live the way that we do and drain the earth of all the gasoline, buildings will crumble, bridges will collapse, and people will die. All of society will feel the full affect of this energy crisis and it is time for the world to stop the downwardly spiraling collapse.

The topic of my research paper will be the Chernobyl disaster. The Chernobyl disaster, which consisted of a steam explosion and graphite fire that burned for nine days, was the worst nuclear power plant accident in history and negatively affected not only the environment but animals and humans as well. Due to all the negative impacts nuclear power plants can cause, they should all be shut down. The division within my essay will be background on the Chernobyl accident, conspiracy theories about the accident, the negative impacts that came after the incident, and negative versus positive impacts of nuclear power plants. By dividing my essay into these parts, it will help fulfill my purpose by showing all of the horrible consequences that come from these nuclear power plants. One example of tragedy that was caused from Chernobyl is cancer. It was revealed in 2005 that thyroid cancer within children was one of the main health impacts resulting from Chernobyl.
